I'm being really unfair to Garrett Wade and their customers because I don't see spokeshaves, draw knives, and decent braces much at Home Depot. GW's machete-buying demographic probably isn't very large. They won't make it up in volume.
In fact the reason I happened to recognize the Condor is because I was on there looking at the draw knives and wondering how hard it would be to make one out of an old mower blade. A little heat, hammering and grinding -- it doesn't seem all that complicated.
Indeed, our pastor's grandson was on a mission trip a few years back -- he's about 18 now -- probably 14 or 15 at the time. Hacking through some where in Central America, he sliced open his leg. He missed the big vessels, but bled quite a bit and, of course, they were worried about infections. He survived and started at Baylor this year.
But the Garrett Wade is a "Personal Machete"
ReplyDeletePersonal Machete
Has gorgeous balance
No one here can take their eyes off this one
It's been a while. I used to get the Garrett Wade catalog back when I listened to NPR before I converted to Redneck.

Come on over and you can borrow the forge.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my only machete joke.
What's the most dangerous animal in the jungle?
A gringo with a machete.
