Combat Mentality

I do not think it will ever get this hardcore in my neck of the woods, but Selco of SHTF School talks about the reality of combat

The world is getting so weird, so off an even keel, one does begin to wonder if it can continue to right itself.  Some places, like Selco's own Balkans twenty years ago, did fall apart.  It's interesting to think that the reason for the violence was ethnic diversity -- tribalism.  What seems to be at the forefront of political considerations in America today?  Diversity, subcultures, ethnic groups, demographic splits -- aka, tribalism.

Selco is worth the read even if, like me, you don't think it will ever get anywhere near that bad here.

Yep. I'm at a loss for anything we can do to turn this around.

(Wasn't Jesus the first and most effective anti-tribalist? -among other things)

I read that Selco article last night.
It just depressed me to even consider having to be in a situation where one had to fight like that. The second article is a very good summary of cause and effect although one troll in the comments just couldn't see that.

  2. Yes, Christianity should unite people.

It is sad to think that so much strife and violence has resulted from people using religion as a political tool. Now we have gone the other way and driven Christianity out of the public square, compartmentalizing it. This is why the left talks about "freedom of worship" -- keep it in the walls.

I've worshiped often with black people, who are, as a group, overwhelmingly good Christians. Whites tend to be less religious, on the whole, but religious whites (not counting Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter) seem to take more out the door with them when they leave church.

  3. Maybe not related, but this made me think of the new History Channel show "Vikings". It's not too bad so far. The Christian monk who was captured questions his faith but manages to resist temptation and stick with it.

I know now what made me think of it. The main Viking character tells the monk, "You are a good Christian."

  4. I've heard people saying good things about that series. I need to make a mental note to watch that once the it goes online.
