It's my grandson. He's nine. They have a youth season before the regular firearms deer season starts probably the 15th of this month. So he was out Saturday and killed this one. This is his fourth youth season deer in four years.
That's pretty impressive -- despite the fact that deer are more than abundant where they live. Their property adjoins National Forest land, so they are practically hunting in the back yard.
Lemme get out the slide rule here..... so he killed his first deer at age 5? That is impressive! I've yet to kill one. Of course, it would help my chances if I actually took the time to go hunting.
Yes, he started very young, but I think he was actually 6 -- which is 20% older. So it's 6, 7, 8, 9.
I killed my first when I was about 14.
Our son hunts with bow, muzzleloader, and firearms. I don't know how many he's killed -- most of them are processed and given to the food bank. He's about a professional.
His dad takes care of the setup and gets him in position, but the grandson does the actual shooting.
Is that kinfolk?

Oh, yes. 6, 7, 8, 9. Hard to believe I manipulate dates in datasets for a living. I always have to double check those simple differences. Durp!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad. I counted on my fingers.
